Brown Repeats as NC State Champion

Stuart Brown needed a strong .410 bore event. He got it.

Brown used a perfect .410 round to finish off a 398/400 weekend to repeat as champion at the 84th Annual North Carolina State Closed Skeet Championships.

Brown also won a lengthy shoot off with Chip Simmons (100), to take the All-Gauge Championship. It marks the Hall of Famer’s fifth All-Gauge title in the state (2012 2014, 2016, 2022).

The state championship was held at Fort Liberty Clay Target Center Sept. 8-10.

Josie Cloninger, the reigning Junior State champion, finished runner up in the overall with a strong 394 after finishing among the leaders in all disciplines. She will serve as state Ladies HOA champion.

Corrie Cloninger won the doubles state championship after marking her first doubles 100x100 on Friday.

Noah Dove took top honors in the 20-gauge championship and Eric Potts won the 28-gauge state title after both posted perfect gun scores. Both captured their titles in shoot offs.

Brown also won the HAA honors and the Champion of Champions event.

Mark West shot his first 100x100 in the 20-gauge event.
